Declaration on the Syrian Revolution of the leftist forces participating in the World Social Forum

Tunisia, March 28, 2013
The revolutions that erupted in the Arab region from Tunisia aroused great interest worldwide. But the situation was complicated when the revolution arrived in Syria, highlighting a serious misunderstanding of the process, following an expired logic derivative of the Cold War and the division of the world into two blocs. So the undersigned declare the following principles:
1. What is happening in Syria is a revolution in every sense of the term. It is the result of the economic collapse in Syria in recent decades as a result of the structural crisis that has impoverished and made more precarious broad sectors of the population, and the wealth concentrated in the hands of a minority mafia supported by a dictatorship. The aim of the revolution is therefore promoting freedom and democracy, as well as the transformation of the economic system in favor of the working classes and the construction of a secular democratic state that guarantees the equality of all the children of the village Syrian Kurds from all the other ingredients.
2. We declare our support for the revolution. Support it is essential so that the victory opens new perspectives of deep social, political and economic transformations and clears the way for the revolution in other countries (from Morocco to Saudi Arabia), in the context of an international situation characterized by a profound worldwide crisis of capitalism announcing the outbreak of large movements in many parts of the world.
3. It is essential to reject all logic that leads to foreign imperialist military intervention by the United States or the European Union. We must also reject the intervention of Russia and Iran, as well as any logic to impose a sectarian or religious seal to the revolution, because it is a popular revolution and is not and will not be a confessional or religious conflict. It is necessary to denounce the opposition policies that reduce the demands of the revolution to their liberal claims, which does not provide solutions to the problems of the people, but only to individuals seeking positions of power.
4. We affirm that this regime is based on neoliberal and gangster foundations, and not on struggle against imperialism. The regime has always been known for its submission to the Zionist state, waging war against the revolution and the Palestinian people, establishing a stable long borders, without ever having sought to recover the occupied Golan.
5. We denounce the regime’s brutal repression against the people, that is a crime against humanity. We must also denounce sabotage of the Gulf countries, which in the case of Saudi Arabia aims to derail the revolution and in the case of Qatar to impose the domination of the Muslim Brotherhood. We also denounce the attempt to export jihad to Syria as an essential element of counter-revolutionary process.
6. It is therefore necessary to give support political, mediatic and material support to Syrian left committed to the revolution, with all possible means. This support should be part of an initiative to coordinate the action of all leftist forces at work in favour of the revolutions in order to encourage their development and to transform them into victorious popular revolutions.
7. We must coordinate global media actions to break the control imperialist media that propagate the Gulf states, which distort the revolution and convey a false image. This will promote the exchange of information and dissemination of analyzes on the left Syrian revolution.
8. It is necessary to clarify the nature of the Syrian revolution in order to try to change the position of supporters from the left to a gangster and criminal regime under the pretext that it is "anti-imperialist". We need to adopt a genuine left revolutionary position supporting the Syrian revolution, as it is an integral part of the revolutions of the Arab countries as a starting point and a sharpening of the class struggle and the outbreak of new revolutions in Europe, Asia and perhaps in the world, under the effects of the capitalist crisis.
Consequently we must mobilize a campaign to support the Syrian revolution; we must act to clarify its conditions, its difficulties and its essentially revolutionary character, against criminal regimes and against capitalism, which we aspire to overcome.
This can begin with a support campaign of the Syrian revolution, organized by the leftist forces in each of our countries during the first week of May 2013.
A preparatory committee will also organize a conference in Tunisia to support the Syrian revolution by the international left, probably in June 2013. A permanent coordinating committee, emerged from Congress, can act to maintain support for the Syrian revolution and the Syian left and to deepen the understanding of the revolution by the international left.
